Michael Osterholm, a former member of President Biden’s COVID-19 advisory board, wasn’t buying what the White House was trying to sell earlier this month that the U.S. may see up to 100 million coronavirus cases this fall and winter — a pitch that had many thinking about the midterm elections and the vast powers that could be exerted there by authorities.
Citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now only recommending masks on public transit, rather than mandating it, Osterhold told CNN analyst Peter Bergen last week the Biden administration’s prognosticating was “a whiplash moment.”
“There seems to be a big disconnect between the White House recently predicting up to 100 million cases in the fall and earlier this month the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention only making a recommendation about wearing masks on public transportation,” Bergen said in the interview.
