Happy New Year! Go Forth and ‘Set the World on Fire’

There are probably very few of us feeling particularly sentimental about 2022 as it ends, even if we had some wonderful personal experiences this year (I know I did). Looking ahead, it’s hard to feel hope about the future. But the key is that we can make choices that will make our lives and our world better. The more of us who commit to truth and justice, the harder it is for lies and injustice to succeed. We can’t change the whole world by ourselves, but with God all things are possible.

St. Catherine of Siena once said, “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” And she would know, because she rose from uneducated obscurity to being a saint and history changer. 2023 is a New Year, a fresh start. Let us resolve that this is the year we will be who God meant us to be, the year we set the world on fire.
