Arbitrary Justice

What is the law? What is justice? What is our judicial system? What is our Constitution? At the root of all of these lofty ideals is equality. Equality underpins all of those high institutions and concepts. That is what “equal justice under the law” means. If we don’t have an equal application of the law, of justice, of our judicial system, and of our Constitution, we don’t have laws, we don’t have justice, we don’t have a judicial system, and we don’t have a constitution. We would merely have arbitrary rules of reward and punishment.

This week, L.A. County D.A. George Gascón sentenced a teen who drove his car into a mother and her infant to five months’ probation, and his record will be wiped clean. The victim said, “He tried to murder two innocent pedestrians… George Gascon doesn’t value my life or the life of my child, or any other victim out there, and would rather reward the monsters like K.B. by demonstrating to them that their actions have no consequences.” She also said that she has “lost all faith in the justice system” Gascón and other far-left D.A.’s throughout our country have made it a practice to selectively enforce the law in their cities based on their political agendas.

Earlier in the week, a Washington, DC jury, that included three donors to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, found Clinton’s lawyer, Michael Sussman, not guilty of lying to the FBI. Sussman did, in fact, lie to FBI general counsel James A. Baker when he told him he wasn’t representing any particular client when he passed along false information about Donald Trump supposedly communicating with the Russians. This fake story was propagated by a lawyer working for the Clinton campaign designed to smear Trump in the run up to the election. Lying to the FBI is a crime that carries a penalty of up to 5 years in prison, but there were people on the jury who decided by themselves that the case should not have been tried and let him off.
